In the mean time

Completely forgot about this blog. Not that I've been cheating on it with another. Just forgot that I had it.

So since my last post, I went on the second round interview. It went well but was told that I didn't have the media relations qualifications to be hired. The organization recommended that I volunteer for a non-profit doing media relations. Except in the back of my mind I keep thinking about needing a job, because that's what it is. A need.

It's not an optional experience. I didn't wake up one more and decide that I didn't want to go anymore. There just wasn't any place to go to anymore. In other related news, another friend was laid off yesterday. She's happy about it actually because it wasn't working out and she was in the process of interviewing elsewhere. So e, good luck!

Not much other news to report in terms of the job hunt. Applying for random positions, getting rejected by all. Someday. I'm just not patient enough to wait.

Interview Round One

Yup, success on the first round interview.
I didn't think it went that well, but must have been memorable.
We literally went through the duties and responsibilities line by line. This part was nice because I knew the posting and had it in front of me in order to gather my thoughts for the responses.

I haven't done media relations stuff. Either creating news releases, pitching or follow-up since College. I mention this as it's my biggest concern over this position. Funny, because of the points the interviewers kept bringing up was how busy a position it is. My response: I don't like to be bored. Which made them laugh.

So round two is Tuesday, with a different collection of people.

*power of positive thinking.

Almost 4 months

That's right. It's been almost 4 months since the end of my last contract.
Hard to believe it's been that long.

But there is news on the job front. Have an interview on Thursday with a local not-for-profit and am excited about it.
Also in the last few weeks I've been subjected to testing and telephone interviews with StatsCanada for assisting with Census2011. However, haven't heard an offer of employment yet.

Here's hoping that something happens. With spring coming, I'm getting anxious.

One month done...

Not sure how much longer. I've been looking for a job for the last 4 weeks since receiving my notice. Haven't had much luck. The majority of the posts I've seen are marketing and sales driven.

Here's to hoping that the job situation will improve.

Welcome 2011

Happy New Year!

May 2011 bring joy, peace and happiness.  In 7 days, I'll be unemployed again. This promises to increase the number of posts here and overall commentary of current events.

So let's see how it goes.

Revised and renewed

So it's been over a year since I posted here. In that time I've been swamped with real life events.
My neice was born with a life-threatening condition. Mercifully it's resolved and she bears very little scaring from it.
I found a good job with a local company. Made it through the first 10 month contract in the Communications department and then was offered an additional 6 months with the Marketing department. Over those 16 months, I've picked up tons of new experiences and skills. But the best part was working with and for a group of incredible people. Unfortunately, due to economic conditions, my contract was not extended. While it broke my heart, and those around me, it'll give me the chance to make some solid decisions about what I want the future to be.

So I'm revisiting this and will use it as a place to discuss the job hunt, and the other tasks I'm looking forward to trying out.
Also, a few friends are starting re-watches for Lost and Buffy which I'm going to attempt to follow along.

Thanks and welcome
kate.

Winter's Coming

In Sask and Manitoba, winter made an appearance, some two months early.
As I'm watching the media footage of slipper roads and snow falling, I remember that during winter some of us hibernate. I do, usually with a fall stack of books.

Right now I'm working through Margaret Atwood's Year of the Flood. It's certainly a continuation of her previous work Oryx and Crake. So far I'm only about 4 chapters in, but I'll be posting a review later on.

I've been collecting stuff to read for the winter over the last few weeks. My biggest task is to work through James Joyce's Ulysses. After that I'm hoping to finally finish reading Dante's Divine Comedy.

Got any other reading suggestions? Leave them below.
